In this work, you yourself appear in the picture, and you control various
visual effects. It is a simple spectacle and you can enjoy it as an amusement.
On the other hand I wanted to express various forms of time with this work.
In film and video which we usually see time is divided equally as series of
still images. Because these still image appear in a sequence and have then
disappeared, we cannot memorize them precisely and cannot compare them. So,
in this work, I called back the image which has usually been lost and placed
many captured images on one screen. By such an expression, we can look at time.
However, time is expressed in double meaning because these images continue
flowing in the same speed instead of being static. In other words we need time
to express time. Furthermore, please pay attention to time in this work being
an objective and an equal thing. It is not consistent with the feeling of time
in our subjectivity. This causes a strange sense to us, and we notice a gap
between subjectivity and objectivity.
One computer, one video projector, one video camera and one controller are used in this work. These equipments is made into one set, and two or more sets can also be arranged. A custom-made software is installed in the computer. It is developed using C/C++ for its graphics processing engine and Max/Jitter for its user interface front-end. It has over thirty types of visual expression methods and several types will be used according to venue characteristics.
- 1 Macintosh Computer (G4/500MHz or higher)
- 1 Video Projector (RGB input, 800x600 pixels resolution)
- 1 Projection Screen
- 1 DV Camera (FireWire connectable, ex. Sony Handycam)
- 1 Controller (ex. Griffin PowerMate)
- Stands or Suspensions for a projector, screen, camera and controller
- 1Lighting facility (for audiences)
- 4m width x 3m height x 5m depth (and 3m depth for a rear projection)
(English Version)
Blow of heart: "Time Machine!" of Masayuki Akamatsu. It acts of a video camera connected on a computer with the very sophisticated software. A button allows to the spectator the interactivity. It is him which controls the course of the sequences: the goal being to travel in time. While turning towards the left, you turn over towards the past (images recorded previously). While turning the button towards the line, you return at the present. While pressing on the button, you obtain all kinds of deformations of filing, reductions ad infinitum, superpositions etc... One does not weary oneself any. Literally hypnotic!
