He has principally been producing media works incorporating music with computers. Masayuki Akamatsu creates self-sustaining environments based on theories of ñArtificial Lifeî. As a result, his works have a kind of independence, while at the same time offering interactivity for the onlooker. He is a member of the algorithmic band "neumannpiano", the digital-analog hybridband "Wolfgang Nai" and the pure electric band "gaspillage". He also works as a systems operator for "commu tele-presence lab." in BBS. His main works are sound installations: "soundtronics field", the live act "ManMade series" and his recent project "incubator" with 50 iMacs. His book "Trans Max Express" has been published.

Musician. He has been working with Max and creating a various type of musics / sound media art works from his unique view point of
philosophical notion of 'machine'. Recent major works: score works "Kikai mission" , sound installation "water machine", solo CD "clockwork hermes"(childisc), book "Trans Max Exoress"(rittor-music) by the name of neumannpiano (with Masayuki Akamatsu), a serial articles about MSP on Sound&Recording Magazine, etc. He started a collaboration unit "Formant Brothers" with Masahiro Miwa and wrote some score works for players. He will teach at Nagoya University of Arts and Sciences from 2003.

He has been composing numerous interactive compositions since 1991. He used Max/FTS with ISPW on the NeXT platform in his compositions. More recently, his works are constructed using MSP in conjunction with his Virtual Musical Instruments and
Interactive video. He has received numerous prizes and fellowships for his compositions.

After graduating from Waseda University, he has studied about a walking
control method of humaonid robot at Osaka University.
Also, he has started his own company "iXs Research Corporation", and
sells some kinds of robots such as humanoid robots, rescue robots.
The humanoid robot "PINO" is also his major production.
